JULY 2008

JAMIE AND ERIC'S TOP 10 PICKS FOR JULY

South America contributes a racy Malbec and a classy Meritage to July's picks. Also on the list are a couple of refreshing whites for summer aperitifs on the terrace and an Australian Cab perfect for a weekend BBQ. And if you're looking for cellar-worthy bottles Jamie and Eric have included a couple of Tuscans and a Bordeaux that offer great value.

1. 2007 Torrontes ‘Premium’, Alta Vista (Mendoza, Argentina)
Highly aromatic grape.  Fresh flowers and lychee fruit abound.  Great aperitif. $13.95  CSPC# 037127

2. 2006 Est!Est!Est! di Montefiascone, Mazziotti (Lazio, Italy)
Very refreshing blend of Trebbiano and Malvasia.  Clean and crisp white that is perfect on the terrace. $16.95 CSPC# 074120

3. 2004 Riesling Kabinett, Weingut Kruger-Rumpf (Nahe, Germany)
One of the wineries Eric visited in June.  This white has reached its peak, as it meshes sweetness and tart acidity. $16.85 CSPC# 991745

4. 2007 Malbec ‘Gestos’, Finca Flichman (Mendoza, Argentina)
Part of the Vintages feature on Malbec.  Juicy and racy style red that offers up everyday pleasure. $15.95 CSPC# 068999

5. 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon/Syrah/Carmenère Limited Edition, Cremaschi Furlotti (Maule Valley, Chile)
For us, this is one of the best values coming out of South America.  Classy style Meritage that is not unlike a village Bordeaux with a lifted mint quality. $15.95 CSPC# 014183

6. 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon ‘The Cover Drive’, Jim Barry (Clare Valley/Coonawarra)
We love Jim Barry’s wines.  Deep and concentrated but not overdone, this Cab should pair nicely with your weekend BBQ. $24.95 CSPC# 677476

7. 2005 Minervois, Hecht & Bannier (Languedoc-Roussillon, France)
Mainly Syrah with a little Grenache and Carignan.  Modern southern red brimming with intense dark fruit and exotic spice. $21.95 CSPC# 017764

8. 2003 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Canneto (Tuscany, Italy)
Great red to enjoy now or put away for a few years.  Sangiovese at its royal heights. $39.95 CSPC# 065854

9. 2003 Sideral, Altair Vineyards (Rapel Valley, Chile)
This Bordeaux blend is terrific value.  The 02’ was priced at $35.00.  Sublime balance of fruit and tannin. $24.95 CSPC#660837

10. 2005 Toscana IGT ‘Non Confunditur’,Argiano (Tuscany, Italy)
